Introduction
I'm an Entrepreneur campaign is an initiative lead by the Ministry of Education and Shell Development Oman (SDO) represented by the Intilaaqah Program.
It aims at raising the level of awareness amongst students about entrepreneurship and encouraging them to think of starting a business as a career option.
The Objectives
- Raise the level of awareness amongst students about entrepreneurship
- Encourage students to think about entrepreneurship as a career option
- Introduce Intilaaqah services to the students
- Encourage students to conduct research in the field of entrepreneurship
Target students
About 3,000 grade 11 & 12 students from various schools in the Sultanate of Oman. The schools have been selected by the concerned directorate in the Ministry of Education.
The Competition
In line with the campaign, this competition aims at encouraging students to research in the field of entrepreneurship and to gain more knowledge about the entrepreneurial environment in Oman
Details
Students will have to login to Intilaaqah's website to register and then answer one of the following questions:
Define entrepreneurship?
Who is an entrepreneur?
What are the characteristics of an entrepreneur? Give some examples of successful entrepreneurs locally, regionally or internationally
What are the organizations that provide support for entrepreneurs in Oman?
What type of support do they provide?
What is the role of the education institution in promoting entrepreneurship?
Write about a local entrepreneur that you are fond of. What is his/her company? How did he/she start? What have he/she achieved? What is it that caught your interest about this entrepreneur?
If you were to start or establish a small business, what are the steps that you will take?
Who can participate?
- Students officially enrolled for the academic year 2009-2010
- Only grade 11 & 12 students
- Students must write the essay by themselves and should be ready to present it in front of the judging panel when required
- The essay should not be less then 500 words and not more than 750 words
- Plagiarism or any form of cheating is not allowed. The essay should be original and not copied from any other source (journal, newspaper, magazine or any other electronic source)
Evaluation Criteria
Essay quality and the level of understanding conveyed by the students for the topic addressed
Authenticity and the variation of resources used in the essay like (magazine, journals, reports …etc)
compliance with the number of words specified.
